Greenco, Inc. Wants to Compost Animal Bodies In Dekalb County | SAY NO!
This is a call for action asking you to attend your community meeting regarding a pending environmental issue that concerns Rock Chapel Park. Greenco, Inc., is planning to establish a landfill in the area that specializes in composting animal carcasses used from research facilities. While we support economic development in East DeKalb County, this is not the type of business growth needed in our beloved community. We are further concerned about the environmental impact of this landfill as it will create an atrocious odor effecting all the programs here at Rock Chapel Park and your surrounding neighborhoods.
Commissioner Lee May is having a meeting with the community and Greenco, Inc., this Thursday, February 9th at 5:30 p.m. at Rock Chapel Elementary School located at the corner of Stephenson Road and Hwy. 124 (http://maps.google.com/?q=1130+Rock+Chapel+Road%2C+Lithonia%2C+GA ). This meeting will be preceded by a site visit to the Lafarge Quarry at 4:30 pm to provide onsite details of their process.
We need strong community support to make a statement that this landfill is not needed and definitely not wanted in our community. Please plan to attend and help protect our declining property values as well as the recreational enjoyment of the park. The proposed landfill will be located approximately 1/2 mile from Rock Chapel Park.
Greenco, Inc. was recently shutdown in Barnesville, Georgia due to community outcry regarding the stench made by the process and other related issues. Follow this link to view communications from the people in Barnesville.
Please attend the community meeting with Commissioner Lee May on Thursday at 5:30 pm. It important that DeKalb County witness our objection to this project. Petitions will also be available for your signature at the meeting. Can't be there at 5:30 - Show up as soon as you can!
See you on Thursday,
