As best we can, we are going to try to reach out to all of the Mayoral Candidates for the 2009 Atlanta Election.  Our personal test, is to see which of them respond with a message that we will post in support of their campaign.

WHY?

As a major African American Portal here in the city, we think it is important that all of the candidates take the time to reach out and give a synopsis of their campaign platform.  We hope that we can give all candidates a clear and unbiased platform, although we are CLEARLY WIDE OPEN to advertising packages from ANY candidate.  We will keep you posted.

To our candidates:  Feel free to send over ANYTHING that you would directly tell a site visitor to BlackAtlanta.com as to Why you want to become Mayor, What Your platform and ideals are, and in general why you want our site visitors' votes.

Candidate Tracker:  Who will respond first?

Kasim Reed:  email sent 7.26

Mary Norwood:  email sent 7.26

Jesse Spikes:  email sent 7.26

Glenn Thomas:  email sent 7.26

Lisa Borders:  email sent 7.26

Ceasar Mitchell:  email sent 7.26

7.26.09:  Sent the following email to all candidates listed above.  (Any new candidates will be sent the same letter.)  All candidate websites listed their "direct" email address except for Kasim's, which sent us to publicist and appearance type emails.  Perception is everything.  I was happy to at least FEEL like the other candidates would get this email in their email inbox or Blackberry.

Here is the letter:

Dear Mayoral Candidate,

We are reaching out to all of the Mayoral Candidates for the 2009 Atlanta Election.  Our agenda is to give all known candidates the opportunity to express their platform bases to our VERY important demographic.... African Americans living in, moving to, doing business in, and interested in Black Atlanta.

WHY?

As a major African American Portal here in the city, we think it is important that all of the candidates take the time to reach out and give a synopsis of their campaign platform in order to help make better informed decisions for the future of the City.

Again, we hope that we can give all candidates a clear and unbiased platform, although we are CLEARLY WIDE OPEN to advertising packages from ANY candidate.

Feel free to send over ANYTHING that you would directly tell a site visitor to BlackAtlanta.com as to Why you want to become Mayor, What Your platform and ideals are, and in general why you want our site visitors' votes.

We appreciate your efforts in taking on a very important job and look forward to your responses.  Responses may be video, audio, and/or photos with text descriptions.

Best regards,

--

(Taylor Media Services) In a history making move, Democrat Karen Bass last week became the first African American female to be sworn in as the speaker of the California Assembly. The 54-year-old Bass is a former community activist and the 67th speaker in the 159 year history of the California legislature. Bass said fixing the state budget will be her number one priority.
